Nestled
on the eastern border of the Pocono Mountains, Pike County's wooded
country lanes connect with Interstate 84, providing easy access to
NYC. In fact, it is located within driving time of one-third of the
nation's population. Commuter bus service to New York's Port Authority
and train service to Hoboken, NJ, allows for an easy commute to the
metropolitan area. Living in a pastoral setting that rests in such
close proximity to one of the world's greatest cities has made Pike
County an attractive place to plant roots.
The county offers an array of year-round recreational
activities. During the spring and summer months the area's bounteous
lakes and streams supply excellent fishing opportunities for the outdoorsman.
Area residents as well as tourists enjoy boating, tubing, swimming
and water skiing. As the winter months furnish the annual blanket
of snow, the Pocono Mountains boast some of the best skiing conditions
on the East coast.
Finally,
the county's 100,000 acres of state gamelands guarantee opportunities
for hunting or simply enjoying nature. The historical aspects of Pike
County are something to be quite proud of, starting with the county
seat of Milford. Amazing architecture on each side of the tree-lined
streets has earned the borough National Historic Landmark Status.
Founded in 1814, Pike County looks forward to a future that respects
the area's natural charms while welcoming the changes that accompany
future growth.
