
Luzerne
County offers residents the opportunity to experience two completely
different worlds right within its borders. Because of the unique combinations
of modern businesses and historical sites, small cities and natural

From Francis Slocum State Park to the First Union Arena, Luzerne County
provides a variety of entertainment to suit any taste. The county
has an abundance of attractions from which to choose, as well as a
comfortable climate that allows its residents to experience all four
seasons. Warm summers are perfect for enjoying outdoor concerts, fishing,
hiking, and a variety of other activities. In contrast, its mild winters
allow for an abundance of skiing and other winter sports.

entertainment purposes, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers and Penguins
share the First Union Arena with the hundreds of concerts and traveling
shows that come to the area each year. In addition to the Arena, the
county captivates its residents with over 40 golf courses, 15 state
and local parks, and hundreds of outdoor playgrounds and courts. Luzerne
County also offers its inhabitants a safe and enlightening place to
live. This area has the eleventh lowest crime rate in the country
when compared to 354 major metropolitan areas. It is also ranked in
the top 70 in both health care and education. Six colleges and universities
provide county residents with a wide array of educational opportunities.
