Internships offer an excellent opportunity for younger workers to learn more about careers and develop skills for future success. A total of 61 percent of companies responding to survey offered internships. Of the companies offering internships, 60 percent offered paid internships. There will be vacancies in various job categories between 2005 and 2008 ranging from unskilled to managerial positions. According to the survey, 60 percent of all job vacancies will originate in the skilled labor, professional, office/clerical and managerial categories. Employers were also asked to rate various factors regarding the overall“quality of life” in Northeast Pennsylvania. Factors such as the area’s historically low crime rate, affordable housing, quality of health care and educational system were ranked as positive points when it comes to living in Northeast Pennsylvania. The vast majority of local organizations offered a wide-variety of benefit packages to their employees. The top benefits offered to workers included: health insurance, paid holidays, paid vacations, dental insurance, life insurance, paid sick days, paid personal days and 401(k) retirement plans.
