The survey also showed a relationship between education and salary levels. Employees with the highest level of education and training achieved the highest salary levels.
Employers from Lackawanna and Luzerne County returned a combined 67 percent of the total surveys, followed by employers from Schuylkill County (21 percent); Monroe County (5 percent); Pike County (3 percent); Carbon County (2 Percent); and Wayne County (2 percent).
The top five industry sectors represented in the survey were: Manufacturing/Skilled Trades, 19 percent; Education/Training, 13 percent; Health Care, 13 percent; Accounting/Financial Services, 7percent; and Retail/Marketing/ Sales, 7 percent.
The survey also inquired if local organizations had plans to eliminate jobs during the next three years. More than 96 percent of the organizations that responded indicated they planned no reduction in their workforce during the next three years. This is good news for Northeast Pennsylvania because it indicates that local employers are planning to keep or add positions rather than eliminating jobs in the coming years. Also, organizations participating in the survey anticipated 965 job vacancies due to retirements during the next three years.
