The goal of the Work & Play in Northeast PA 2005 Job Market Survey was to determine available job vacancies local employers plan to fill during the next 18 months and during the next three years. We are pleased to report that 224 companies responding to the survey identified a total of 4,810 job vacancies within 18 months and 4,499 job vacancies which will be available in the next three years, for a total of 9,309 job vacancies from 2005 - 2008. Survey results were obtained by distributing a comprehensive job market survey to 1,015 employers throughout the seven counties of Northeast Pennsylvania (Lackawanna, Luzerne, Carbon, Pike, Schuylkill, Wayne and Monroe). Employers anticipate filling positions in numerous occupations in the coming years. As you will see, many of the jobs identified pay good, family-sustaining wages. However, the survey also indicated that obtaining those better-paying positions often requires education and training in specific fields. We hope the following information is useful to you as you plan for a successful future in Northeast Pennsylvania.

The results revealed the greatest number of jobs will be in Manufacturing/Skilled Trades, followed by Customer Service/ Personal Service; Healthcare; and Clerical Administrative.
As expected, many of our area’s top-paying jobs involve careers which require technical education or specialized training. For individuals who develop those skill sets, there are numerous opportunities to pursue successful and rewarding careers.
