What is "Work and Play in Northeast PA" and why is it important?

The objective of and Work & Play in Northeast PA is to retain smart, aggressive and ingenious people who will improve the region and inspire others to stay.

The fact is that Northeastern Pennsylvania has jobs and a great infrastructure to suit all varieties of interests and needs. If you are graduating from college, you really should consider staying in Northeastern Pennsylvania to find employment. The cost of living is lower than many big cities, recreational action is everywhere, and the location is within driving distance to many other areas … New York City, Philadelphia, Finger Lakes, Canada, Washington D.C. and others. .

Still doubtful? Well, don't be. From sports to music and the arts, you can do it all right here in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Find out where to listen to your favorite band or style of music, catch a game, dine out on anything from burgers and fries to dinner by candlelight, or enjoy the outdoors in any season of the year. It's all a short drive away!

There are plenty of regional partners still busy promoting Work & Play in Northeast PA:

  • The Schuylkill County Chamber of Commerce and Schuylkill County CareerLink are working with the Superintendent of School Districts to reach Schuylkill County high school students;

  • The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce and Future Connect are working with Superintendent of School Districts to reach Lackawanna county high school students;

  • The Wilkes Barre Chamber of Business and Industry is working with colleges and universities to reach students;

  • The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce and Partners in Education have initiated an internship program for teachers at job sites in the Greater Hazelton Area.

Work & Play NEPA is an award-winning program; it is the proud recipient of the First Annual John J. Luciani Regionalism Award, which was initiated by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance and its partners in 2003. The award was given to Work & Play and its partners for excellence in promoting our region to young people … our greatest resource.
