Whether you are looking for a lakefront property nestled in the mountains, a historic townhouse or anything in between, NEPA has a diverse selection of properties for you to choose from. Due to its historic past, the region abounds with architecture from the early 1900s. These properties are speckled throughout the region, reminding us of a time when life was simpler. It is not uncommon to find clusters of beautiful old homes nestled on a city street or adorning the center of a sleepy country town. Many have been restored to their original grandeur and serve as single family homes. Others have been converted into spacious apartments while retaining the character and charm of the past.

"Having faith in yourself and your abilities...and, from there...the sky's the limit."
Lauren Jackson, Hazleton Area High School, Luzerne County.

To accommodate young professionals with families, many areas are experiencing the growth of modern housing developments. Located in rural settings, yet close to shops and businesses, these developments are designed to meet the needs of the growing family. Builders take pride in constructing homes that match both the financial and lifestyle requirements of clients. Homebuyers can choose from a wide range of sizes and amenities, depending on their budget and personal requirements.

It's a great night when you leave the house with $30 in your pocket, have dinner with friends, see a movie and come home with $5. This doesn't happen so often in a big city, but in Northeast PA, you can almost count on it. The cost of living can really make a difference in the quality of life you have. Almost everything is more attainable - not to mention that traffic is rarely an issue, crime rates are low and life is much less stressful. We have compiled some statistics comparing Northeast Pennsylvania areas with other cities. Here are some comparisons we thought might be of interest to you. Maybe you are renting an apartment or townhouse. Check out the following chart to compare what you could be paying in rent if you lived in NEPA. Better yet, if you already live in NEPA, look at the great deal you are getting compared to some other places!

Did you ever wonder how much money you would need to make to maintain a comparable lifestyle in a different city? We went online and did some research. Check out the chart below. It tells you how much money you would need to make in NEPA to maintain the same standard of living in a major US city. We did our comparison based on $40,000/year. For example, a salary of $24,341.25 in NEPA is equivalent to $40,000 in Washington, DC.

It seems like every time you turn on the news, some kind of crime is being committed somewhere. It pays to check out the crime rates where you live. The following table compares the NEPA city/town crime rates to other locations.

The index is based on a weighted average of the relative frequency of crimes per capita of five types: homicide, robbery, rape, aggravated assault, and motor vehicle theft.

A value of 100 means that the city is exactly average. A value of 200 means that the city has twice the crime rate as the average city. A value of 50 means that the city has half the crime rate of the average city. Source: Homefair.com February 2003. Please not that the number of crimes reported has been adjusted to yield a rate per 100,000 people.
